New Jersey Towns & Counties

New Jersey has twenty-one counties which AboutNewJersey.com has grouped into five regions. The northwestern section is the Mountain Region and is home to great hiking and outdoors activities.. The northeastern section is the Gateway Region and is the part that most people are familiar with when they fly into Newark Liberty International Airport. The Capital Region is in the center of the state and is home to Princeton University, Rutgers University and the state capital of Trenton. The Shore Region runs down the eastern side along the coast and is the place most vacationers are familiar with. The Delaware River Region is located along the western side of New Jersey and contains an abundance of farms and woodlands - including parts of the 1.1 million acre Pine Barrens. To see where each county is located and what towns are in that county, simply mouse over the map to the left.

Each region has a unique character. While the Gateway Region is very urbanized, the Mountain and Delaware River Regions have beautiful countryside and wildlife.

Urban Enterprise Zones
This is a reference to New Jersey's 32 Urban Enterprise Zones. In these towns and cities there are reduced taxes, and economic incentives for businesses and visitors in order to promote tourism and growth.

If you are looking for great deals and a tax break, there is no better place to look than at these cities.

New Jersey may only be a little over 8,000 square miles, but the diversity of activities and geography is incredible. You can go from the sandy flat lands of the Pine Barrens in the south to the beautiful mountains in the northwest within about three - four hour drive. Taking the backroads will give you a much truer picture of what New Jersey is like than traveling along the New Jersey Turnpike or other major highways.
